The Chicago Bears attempted to improve their lackluster return game by signing veteran Benny Cunningham to a one-year deal on Tuesday.
While a member of the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, Cunningham had the fourth-most kickoff return yards (2,575) in the league over the past four seasons. Last year, Cunningham finished third in kickoff return average (27.2). His career average is 27.1 yards on kickoff returns.
Cunningham’s primary competition for the job is likely to be Deonte Thompson, who the Bears are expected to re-sign.
