Chicago Bears News & Rumors start with Cordarrelle Patterson as he’s been working primarily at RB during training camp. Today was the Bears first padded practice and Patterson took reps at running back. Matt Nagy says he’s “excited to see what he can do there” and hopes the Bears can get the most out of him in 2020. The Bears are thin at RB behind David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen so playing Patterson there could make some sense.
Bears Training Camp is ramping up as today was the Bears first practice with full pads on. Chicago has a lot of training camp battles this year including quarterback as Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles will compete for the starting quarterback job. Bears’ head coach Matt Nagy has preached competition and intensity this year and several other starting spots are up for grabs including right guard, cornerback #2, wide receiver #3, strong safety and a few others.
Artie Burns took the first-team reps at CB2 over Jaylon Johnson and others, but that spot, like several others, will have to be earned. Eddie Goldman opted-out of the 2020 NFL Season leaving many Bears fans wondering who would be the starting nose tackle. Could it be Bilal Nichols? Nichols took some reps at NT today and says he’s “ready to step up.”
Chicago Bears News continues with a couple of scheduled QB workouts. The Bears are bringing in UDFA rookie Mason Fine and veteran QB Kyle Sloter. Fine had an incredibly productive 4-year career at North Texas before going undrafted largely due to him being extremely undersized plus suffering some injuries throughout his college career. Sloter has bounced around a few practice squads since 2017 and spent some time on the Lions active roster last season. Will the Bears sign a QB?
