The Chicago Bears are in need of depth at inside linebacker heading into the start of free agency next week, and many are beginning to wonder if they'll look to an old rival in order to find help.
Pro Football Weekly's Hub Arkush believes that the Bears should take a look at former Green Bay Packers inside linebacker AJ Hawk, especially if they can get him at a bargain:
Hawk is not the player he was a few years ago, and not the answer for the future. But at or near a veteran minimum deal, Hawk is a player well-versed in the system who could log valuable minutes for a season or two while helping younger Bears transition into the new scheme.
There is also always the possibility he could experience a resurgence of sorts to the player he was a few years ago, when he was one of the better run stuffing 3–4 inside guys in the league. It sure helped Julius Peppers going the other direction, not that anyone will ever mistake Hawk for Peppers.
