Christian Pulisic made his return to the Chelsea starting XI, but was denied a goal scoring chance via two questionable decisions from referee Simon Hooper.

In the 14', Pulisic had a breakaway chance in the box when cameras caught Bournemouth defender Adam Smith seemingly pulling Pulisic by his shirt. The American went down, but no penalty was given.

Later on, in the 44', Pulisic put the ball in the back of the net, but it was overturned when a foul preceded the goal.
