State school places across England are already running low amid concerns that Labour's plan to impose VAT on private school fees will lead to an unprecedented rush for the best secondaries, a Daily Mail investigation reveals.

More than 95 per cent of state school places are thought to be to be full in some areas, leaving pupils who are forced out of the private sector with slim pickings.
