SPORTS AGENDA: Julian Nagelsmann pulled out of the running to become Chelsea manager after holding serious concerns over the recruitment process and reports that Mauricio Pochettino and Vincent Kompany were also being considered

Julian Nagelsmann pulled out of the running to become the next Chelsea manager after harbouring serious concerns over the recruitment process, sources have disclosed.

The German is understood to have been under the impression that the job was his and that talks were a formality.

However, unease grew following a succession of meetings, and reports that managers such as Mauricio Pochettino and Vincent Kompany were also being considered.

On Friday, with doubts growing, ex-Bayern Munich boss Nagelsmann decided to withdraw.

Former Tottenham manager Pochettino, who is thought to have seriously impressed during discussions, is now widely expected to succeed Graham Potter and a decision is on the cards in the coming days.
