Sir Geoff Hurst has issued a statement to deny claims made following the Sheldon Report into football's abuse scandal that he did not cooperate with investigations into former Chelsea scout Eddie Heath.
Hurst, hat-trick hero of England's 1966 World Cup win, was the Chelsea boss who sacked Heath but he insists this was a 'footballing decision' and not connected to revelations which have come to light since about Heath abusing some of the young players in his care.
When football's historical abuse scandal erupted, Chelsea launched their own QC-led inquiry into Heath, who died in 1983, and concluded there was a 'gap in the evidence'.
