The women’s football world turned its eyes to Pride Park last weekend to see Chelsea banish their demons and end a run of three consecutive League Cup final defeats, picking up the first available piece of silverware of the season.

Away from Derby though there was one result that occurred which flew under the radar but had huge ramifications on the title race, and that was Manchester United’s 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool.

Marc Skinner’s side were the closest to Chelsea in the top-flight, and by losing that game United have given Chelsea an eight-point lead with six games left to play, while also conceding their second-placed position to Arsenal on goal difference.
