Referee chiefs backing Michael Oliver and VAR after Tottenham's winner against Chelsea

The referees' bosses at the PGMO are satisfied Michael Oliver and his officials, including his video assistant Chris Kavanagh, reached the correct decision over Tottenham's controversial penalty against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Maurizio Sarri was furious after losing 1-0 at Wembley to a penalty scored by Harry Kane and awarded by referee Oliver after consultation with his VAR Kavanagh.

Sarri paraded footage from Chelsea's own video analysts to support his claim that Kane was offside before he was fouled by goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

PGMO has defended referee Michael Oliver's decision to award a penalty when Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga upended Harry Kane.

Kavanagh would not have been able to access this precise piece of footage filmed by Chelsea's own analysis team from the gantry or the lines they digitally superimposed onto the pitch.
