Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has confirmed that Roberto Firmino is ruled out of the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday, and also revealed that Diogo Jota's fitness was a 'challenge'.
After performing a super sub role Jurgen Klopp's side by coming off the bench and scoring the opener against Inter in the Champions League last week, Firmino suffered a muscle injury that meant he missed the following Premier League games against Norwich and Leeds.
Klopp had been blunt in his earlier assessment that Firmino would struggle to make it to Wembley against Chelsea and at his pre-match press conference Lijnders confirmed the worst for the Brazilian.
