The Royals sacked Jaap Stam as manager on Wednesday after a run of just one win in 18 Championship games.
Former Manchester United star Stam led the club to the Championship play-off final last season - his first in charge.
But, having lost on penalties to Huddersfield at Wembley, Stam has failed to maintain those lofty heights this term and was axed with Reading in serious relegation trouble.
Reading chief executive Ron Gourlay has been tasked with appointing a new man and wants it done quickly as the club look to move clear of danger.
