Chelsea progressed to the next round of the EFL Cup at the expense of Bristol Rovers, but they were made to work harder than expected at Stamford Bridge by the League One outfit whose endeavours were fairly reflected by the final scoreline of 3-2.
The Blues dominated the first half, and two quick goals in succession around the half-hour mark from Michy Batshuayi and Victor Moses suggested the floodgates might open, but Rover's battled back and Peter Hartley reduced the arrears moments later.
Batshuayi, making his full Chelsea debut, restored the home side's two-goal advantage before the break, but it was the visitors who took the initiative shortly after the interval when Ellis Harrison scored from the penalty spot and they might have levelled the tie but for an outstanding save from deputy keeper Asmir Begovic.
