Gareth Southgate has explained that the appointment of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as an assistant England coach was motivated in part by the FA's ongoing commitment to diversity.
Hasselbaink, who Southgate played with at Middlesbrough, has joined the national team set up after the departure of Chris Powell.
The former Dutch international, who also played for Leeds and Chelsea during an eleven-year spell in England, will predominantly work with England's forwards.
Asked if he had considered appointing an English coach, Southgate said: 'Chris's placement had finished with us and we wanted to keep that diversity in our coaching team.
