Jamie Redknapp says the Newcastle players must quickly regroup around Kieran Trippier after his nightmare at Stanford Bridge.
The Magpies were two minutes from a first-ever away victory in a League Cup quarter-final when Mykhailo Mudryk pounced on a mistake by Trippier, whose header teed up the Ukrainian to score from just a few yards from goal and send the game to spot-kicks.
Trippier’s head was duly scrambled and it was no surprise when he missed in the penalty shootout.
Chelsea were buoyed by their escape and scored all four spot-kicks before Djordje Petrovic saved Matt Ritchie’s effort.
