'I wanted to show them that I still had some good years left in me': Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud reveals 'extra determination' to beat Arsenal in Europa League final last season to prove they were wrong to sell him

Olivier Giroud said he wanted to ‘show’ Arsenal he still had some good years left in him as he helped inspire Chelsea to a 4-1 Europa League final victory over his former team last year.

The French striker opened the scoring for the Blues as they romped to a 4-1 victory in Baku with further goals from Pedro and two from Eden Hazard.

The 33-year-old has revealed his determination to prove Arsenal were wrong to let him go, helped motivate him during the final last season.

He told Chelsea’s official club website: ‘It was a very special moment but it was like extra motivation for me because I wanted to show them (Arsenal) that I still had some energy in me and some good years left in me.
