Graham Potter reveals omitted Reece James thought he would be ‘close’ to making England’s World Cup squad while Ruben Loftus-Cheek also thought he ‘had a chance’ of making Gareth Southgate’s final cut

Chelsea head coach Graham Potter has said Reece James and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have both been left disappointed at being omitted from Gareth Southgate's final 26-man England squad.

Southgate announced his final squad for the Qatar World Cup - which begins on November 20 - on Thursday, with the two Chelsea stars notable omissions.

James missed out through a knee injury sustained last month away at the San Siro while Loftus-Cheek did not do enough to make the final 26 despite some strong recent performances.
