Romelu Lukaku's £98million move to Chelsea has turned out to be nothing short of a disaster, and on Wednesday night his stuttering Stamford Bridge career plummeted to a new low.
With the Blues trailing 3-1, Thomas Tuchel introduced Lukaku from the bench for the final 25 minutes of their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid, turning to his 6ft 3in centre-forward in a desperate search for at least one late goal to keep the tie in the balance.
In the end they failed to reduce the aggregate deficit and Madrid headed back to Spain with a two-goal cushion to bring into Tuesday's second leg.
