Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has backed Alvaro Morata to prove he is worth the £70million transfer fee they are set to pay for him and insisted he will be the club's first-choice striker next season.
The Spain international is set to become the most expensive player in Chelsea's history once his move from Real Madrid is sealed, surpassing the £50m they paid to sign Fernando Torres from Liverpool in 2011.
That transfer is widely regarded as one of the biggest mistakes in Premier League history with Torres failing to come anywhere close to providing value for money, but Conte insists the same fate will not befall Morata.
