Antonio Conte began his reign as Chelsea manager with a hard fought 2-1 victory over London rivals West Ham at Stamford Bridge.

A rejuvenated Eden Hazard opened the scoring with an emphatic penalty before the Hammers equalised with an unlikely Exocet from defender James Collins. Diego Costa struck the winner in the dying minutes to send Conte wild on the touchline.
