Benfica have underlined their desire to keep Chelsea target Enzo Fernandez by proposing a new contract.
The club put out an official statement on Thursday in response to reports they were willing to let the 21-year-old go if his £106m release clause was met, saying: 'We insist our intention is to keep Enzo here until the end of the season'.
Chelsea remain keen to sign Fernandez but must meet the clause and convince the Argentina midfielder of their project.
The Benfica star only arrived at the club in June, following a move from River Plate in his native Argentina, but has already drawn the attention of numerous top clubs.
