Antonio Rudiger particularly culpable for Chelsea on his return to Rome

Chelsea slumped to their first defeat in this season's Champions League after being beaten 3-0 by Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Blues got off to the worst possible start, conceding after just 39 seconds when Stephan El Shaarawy fired a wonderful volley past Thibaut Courtois. Chelsea almost responded immediately but Eden Hazard could only fire straight at Alisson in the Roma goal. Chelsea proceeded to dominate the rest of the half with Hazard pulling the strings. They were wasteful in front of goal, however, with Alvaro Morata guilty of missing a glaring chance inside the six-yard box.
