The Memphis Grizzlies' No. 39 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft Jaylen Wells played 11 minutes in an eventual 124-100 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday night, but his outstanding rookie campaign came to an unfortunate close after he was under-cut by Hornets guard KJ Simpson on a dunk attempt late in the first half of the contest.
Simpson's contact with Wells led the guard to fall backwards onto his right arm and back, leaving him unresponsive for several minutes.
The 21-year-old was promptly stretchered out of the arena and further diagnosed with a broken right wrist, and the team's newly-appointed head coach Tuomas Iisalo later shared that he was talking and moving his extremities after being transported to a local hospital.
