STORRS – Despite all the adversity the UConn women’s basketball team has faced this season, the Huskies can clinch the Big East regular season championship with a victory Wednesday over Marquette.
“I like when we have a chance to win the conference championship, because that means over five months we were the best team,” coach Geno Auriemma said. “That has always been important, and it always will be.”
The championship would be the second straight since returning to the Big East and the Huskies’ ninth straight overall counting the seven American Athletic Conference championships.
It would be their 20th Big East regular season title dating back to their first in 1988-89 and would be their 27th overall.
