The Charlotte Hornets had a disappointing season as they failed to make the playoffs, and this offseason will be key in determining the future of the franchise. Perhaps the most important part will be landing an impact player with the No. 9 pick in the NBA Draft - here are the three players they're targeting with that selection:
3) Kelly Oubre – 6’6″, 205 lbs, SF – Fr., Kansas
Stats: 9.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg
Oubre had an extremely slow start to the season, but once he finally cracked Kansas’ starting lineup before conference play starter, he showed why he’s considered to be a lottery talent. He is perhaps the most athletic player in the draft and should develop into one of the league’s premier perimeter defenders to go along with his outstanding slashing ability. There are some questions about his aggressiveness, but his upside is undeniable.
2) Stanley Johnson – 6’7″, 245 lbs, SF – Fr., Arizona
Stats: 14.1 ppg, 6.6 rpg
Johnson started the college season as the second most hyped player in this freshman class behind Jahlil Okafor, and he lived up to that hype. He was the defensive force scouts wanted to see, and when coupled with his athleticism and improved shooting stroke (37.1% from long-range), and it’s easy to see why many think he’ll be able to make an impact in the NBA right away.
1) Devin Booker - 6'6", 206 lbs, SG - Fr., Kentucky
Stats: 10.0 ppg, 2.0 rpg
Charlotte's offense has been severely hampered by a lack of outside shooting, and Booker is the best sharpshooter in the draft. However, his athleticism and overall game has some scouts thinking he could turn into a Klay Thompson-type player. Booker's shooting will allow him to have an immediate impact off the bench, and should develop into the perfect backcourt-mate for Kemba Walker.
