CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Through the first five events in the men's decathlon, Charlotte junior leads all competitors with 3,274 points. Senior Desirae Rowell paces the field in the women's heptathlon with 2,999 points, with junior Amaka Awuruonye close behind in second with 2,975 points. Taylor Parcells has 2,579 points after day one at the Charlotte 49er Classic from the Irwin Belk Track Center on Thursday.
Yardley set new personal records in the men's decathlon in the long jump and shot put events, finishing first overall in both. The junior finished second in the high jump, third in the 100m and fourth in the 400m.
