Women’s basketball falls in conference opener

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte could not overcome a 6-0 start by Old Dominion in the Conference USA opener for both teams, as the 49ers fell 71-59 to the visiting Lady Monarchs Sunday afternoon during a Fox Sports Networks broadcast from Halton Arena.

Senior Kira Gordon topped Charlotte (7-5, 0-1 C-USA) with a near double-double performance of 16 points and nine rebounds, one shy of her season-best effort on the glass. She hit 7-of-15 field goals, including a 3-pointer, while adding an assist and a blocked shot defensively in 35 minutes.
