Focus and execute.
Charlotte's coaching staff wanted the little things to go right on Saturday. A week of change needed consistency where it could be found, and the 49ers discovered it in the details.
They had multiple goals, but cutting out self-inflicted wounds stood above them all. Penalties and turnovers have played an outsized role in the team's losses. They've also hidden the results that are possible when miscues are minimized.
Saturday's 39-27 win over Florida Atlantic was the result of taking the majority of them away.
"It's one of the emphases we made during the week in our meetings and our keys to victory — we need to win the penalty battle, we need to eliminate self-inflicted wounds," coach Tim Brewster said.
