Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers (13-13, 2-1) opened conference play with their first series win ever over the Florida Atlantic Owls, 5-1, highlighted by two home runs from sophomore Bailey Vannoy and freshman Madelyn Wright on Sunday at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium.
The 49ers scored five runs in the third inning, and that was all they need en route to a Conference USA-victory over the Owls. Junior pitcher Maddux Hughes was stellar in the circle as she pitched her first complete game. In a season-high 7.0 innings, she gave up one run (unearned) on three hits and struck out four to up her win total to three on the season.
