CHARLOTTE, N.C. – NC State rallied with three in the eighth and two in the ninth as the second-ranked Wolfpack topped Charlotte 6-4 on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark. A crowd of 4,324 watched the action in Uptown Charlotte.
"We're disappointed," started Head Coach Loren Hibbs. "NC State may be the best team in the country right now. It was a great crowd and atmosphere, a College World Series type atmosphere going back-and-forth. We played really well for seven innings, they just had a little bit more than us tonight."
Charlotte (8-8) put together a solid two-out rally in the third as pinch-hitter Tate Pennington started with a single to center before Patrick Wheeler sacrifice bunt moved him to second.
