A bye week came at the best — or worst — time possible for Charlotte, depending on who you ask.

Momentum peaked when the 49ers walked off Jerry Richardson Stadium's turf on the heels of a 55-24 win over visiting East Carolina. The second-largest winning margin for a conference game in school history needed more air to grow a larger flame, but instead forced the team to face a different challenge: keeping a hot streak going through time off.

"A bye week is never great unless you're banged up," coach Biff Poggi said.
