And that's fine with Special Teams Coordinator Charlie Skalaski, whose overall unit ranked 21st in the country. Charlotte averaged 23.1 kick return yards while holding opponents to 19.2 and boasted one of the top punters in Conference USA. On the flip side, the kicking game struggled, opening up competition for that spot. "It's still early still in our early schemes," Skalaski said. "We set the bar last year and finished 21st in special teams efficiency in the nation.
