EL PASO, Texas - One gold medal and one shiny, brand new school record highlighted the second day of the 2017 Conference USA Outdoor Championships for the Charlotte Track & Field team on Friday at UTEP's Kidd Field.
Sophomore Amaka Awuruonye made history on Friday night, breaking the Charlotte school record for the heptathlon and finishing ninth out of 20. With 4,827 total points, the Charlotte native surpassed Evelyn Putman's 2014 record of 4,701 points. Awuruonye set personal records over the course of two days in the 100-meter hurdles, shot put, 200-meter dash, long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter dash.
