Charlotte 49ers junior golfer Matt Sharpstene (Asheville, N.C.) shot a seven-under par second round to finish first at US Open Final Qualifying at the Dallas Athletic Club (DAC), Tuesday. Sharpstene claimed one of the site's 10 spots for the upcoming US Open.
The 121st United States Open Championship will be played at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, Calif., June 17-20.
"I'm just so excited for Matt to qualify and be able to play in the U.S. Open," said 49ers head coach Ryan Cabbage. "It's something that all golfers dream of growing up, being able to compete in one of golf's four major championships.
