CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the second-straight year, Charlotte's Matt Sharpstene made a deep run in the US Amateur men's golf tournament making a trip to the quarterfinals on Friday at Oakmont just outside Pittsburgh, after navigating a final four appearance one year ago at Bandon Dunes. Sharpstene was one of five Niners in the event along with Carson Ownbey, Trey Tobias, Caden Baker and Conor Gough.
STROKE PLAY SURGE
In the first of two stroke round plays earlier in the week, Sharpstene opened with a round of 74 using an eagle two on the par four fifth followed by a birdie three on the par four 15th.
