HOUSTON – Sophomore Rocio Safont established a new single-season singles record with her second-straight clinching decision and the Charlotte women's tennis team moved into the quarterfinal round after sweeping Marshall 4-0 in the Air Force Reserve Conference USA Championships Thursday evening at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Safont was a part of two key wins for the No. 6-seed Niners on the night but it was her singles decision on the No. 2 court that locked up the overall team win. She handed the No. 11-seeded Thundering Herd's Elizabeth Stefancic a 6-2, 6-4 setback to garner her 27th singles triumph of the campaign, including the fall, to break the previous mark of 26 set by Ana Spivakovsky in 2006-07.
