CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte women's basketball jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game and forced 19 turnovers, converting them into 19 points, to claim a 70-53 coast-to-coast victory over UNC Asheville Thursday night inside Halton Arena. It marked the ninth-straight season-opening triumph for the 49ers, including a perfect 8-0 under head coach Cara Consuegra.
LEADERS
Twelve of the 13 Niners on the roster saw action as Consuegra employed her depth with four reaching double-figure scoring. Redshirt junior Jade Phillips, seeing her first live action since 2016-17 when she was still at Syracuse prior to transferring into the program last year, led Charlotte players with 16 points on 6-of-13 from the field to go along with eight rebounds.
