CHARLOTTE, N.C. - With the game tied at one heading into the final inning, the Charlotte softball team pieced together some clutch hitting to plate five runs in the top of the 7th inning to beat La Salle, 6-1, and win the Green & White Invitational championship on Sunday afternoon at the D.L. Phillips Softball Complex.
The win improves the 49ers' overall record to 12-4 on the season while the Explorers fall to 4-1 after going undefeated the rest of the weekend.
Needing someone to step up as an offensive catalyst against the stout La Salle pitching barrage in a tie game, sophomore dug in to the batter's box and hit a leadoff double to the left field fence.
