CARROLL YORK The Charlotte 49ers athletic department is deeply saddened to share the news that original Charlotte Center of the University of North Carolina "Owl" Carroll York passed away, June 2. Mr. York played for the school's first football teams in 1946 and 1947. At the time, CCUNC was a two-year school that held its classes uptown at Central High School (now the site of Central Piedmont Community College). Because high school classes were held during the day, college classes were held at night, yielding the nickname "Owls". When discussion grew about the 49ers adding its current football program, Mr.
