Niners fall to Winthrop, 3-2

The Charlotte 49ers fell to the Winthrop Eagles, 3-2 Tuesday night at Mariam-Hayes Stadium. The 49ers held a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the ninth and then surrendered three runs that ultimately led to their defeat.

In the second inning, senior TJ Nichting connected with his first hit of the game and landed on first base with a single to open up the home-half and advanced to second on a throwing error from the Winthrop right fielder. Then, fellow senior Logan Sherer squared up a single to left field to score Nichting and give the Niners an early 1-0 lead.
