CLEARWATER, Fla. – Taking on some of the best programs in the nation, a young Charlotte (2-5) squad found themselves on the wrong side of a pair of defeats on Friday to open their weekend at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational.
The 49ers led No. 20 Liberty through five-and-a-half innings, but some timely hitting and untimely errors allowed the Flames to come back for a 6-4 victory. In the nightcap, No. 4 UCLA showed why they are expected to return to Oklahoma City and compete for a national championship, defeating Charlotte 10-0 (5 inn.).
The Green and White have a trio of games remaining in Clearwater over the weekend and will take on Auburn on Saturday at 1 p.
