On a cold, crisp Friday evening, defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch laid down the fastest lap in the last round of qualifying, meaning that the No.18 should have earned the pole for Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.
What is earned can be taken away however, and the No.18 team quickly learned that as Busch’s time was disallowed after the car failed post-qualifying inspection.
The pole didn’t leave the Busch family however, as Kyle’s brother Kurt, by virtue of qualifying second, will be bumped up to the first starting position.
It is Kurt Busch’s first career pole at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and his first pole since Pocono Raceway last June.
