The Charlotte 49ers (17-12) softball team lost both games of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Western Carolina Catamounts (19-10) in the midweek non-conference match-up. Both games were missing the offensive firepower that has become a trademark of Charlotte, as the Western Carolina pitching was able to do a good job of keeping the 49ers off the bases and preventing any real momentum from building in Charlotte’s favor.
Unfortunately for the 49ers, the Catamounts brought their big bats on the trip down from Cullowhee, pounding out 15 hits, including four home runs, throughout the afternoon.
Game 1: WCU 2, CHAR 1
In the first game of the doubleheader, the first few innings featured a pitcher’s duel between Charlotte’s Lexi Betancourt and Western Carolina’s Taylor Sigmon.
