CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers softball team opened up the season with a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Appalachian State Mountaineers in eight innings on Friday evening.
In the bottom of the eighth, junior Ann Devereaux reached on a double to left field, then moved to third on a groundout. After taking a big lead at third, the App State catcher threw it to Mountaineers third baseman, Keri White, who dropped the ball on the transfer allowing Devereaux to score and walk it off for the 49ers.
"It feels great to be back," head coach Ashley Chastain said.
