CHARLOTTE — It is with the heaviest of hearts that the Charlotte 49ers announce that Associate Athletic Director for Broadcast Video and Technology Matt Messina passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1 after a 9-year battle with cancer. He was 34.
"We are devastated by the loss of Matt Messina," said Director of Athletics Mike Hill. "He loved being a Niner and was a selfless, dedicated, hard-working man who served others with grace and kindness. He was a brilliant problem solver whose expertise was frequently sought out by other teams and organizations in our community. Most importantly, though, he was a loyal friend and beloved member of our Niner family.
