The Charlotte 49ers (12-14, 3-4 C-USA) welcomed the home run powered offense of Southern Miss (20-7, 6-1 C-USA) to the Hayes Friday night, losing to the Golden Eagles and the long ball 7-1 after a big six-run sixth inning to propel USM over Charlotte in the first game of the three-game series.
“It’s a team game and we need to figure out how to play a little better tomorrow,” said Head Coach Loren Hibbs after the loss. “I thought we competed well.”
Reece Hampton got the game started off with a single to right field, advancing on an overthrow from the right fielder to first base.
