Defense was key in Charlotte’s (12-9, 5-5) win Thursday, Jan. 11 against Rice (4-17, 3-7). The Owls kept it close through three quarters, but the 49ers pulled away in the fourth quarter finishing the night 69-58.
Back-to-back Conference USA Freshman of the Week Grace Hunter finished the night with 19 points. Alexis Alexander also had an impressive night with 18 points. Laia Raventós tallied 14 points while Lefty Webster racked up 12.
Webster and Hunter both tallied eight rebounds. Kira Gordon and Alexander finished with six rebounds apiece.
Alexander came strong in the first quarter, racking up eight points in the first ten minutes.
