Charlotte, N.C. - The 17th-ranked Charlotte 49ers (7-2-0, C-USA: 3-1) braved the aftermath of Hurricane Mathew and defeated Conference USA foe New Mexico (7-4-0, C-USA: 1-2-0), 2-1 at Transamerica Field behind two goals from Brandt Bronico.
"I think the biggest challenge for both teams tonight was the wet conditions and gusty winds – remnants of [Hurricane] Matthew," Charlotte 49ers coach Kevin Langan said. "We handled it well. The first couple minutes in the first half was just feeling each other out. We earned two deserved penalties when we were breaking in. In the second half when New Mexico threw everything at us, we didn't match their intensity or shape.
