KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – A massive nine-run bottom of the third highlighted a banner night in Kannapolis as Charlotte rolled past Appalachian State 15-5 in the first-ever baseball game at the new Atrium Health Ballpark. A sellout crowd of 1,648 watched the 49ers take down an in-state opponent scoring 12 runs over the first three innings.
"Tonight was special," began Head Coach Robert Woodard. "We feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of the first-ever game here at Atrium Health Ballpark … we all wish baseball would have been played a year ago, but everyone affiliated with the Cannon Ballers has been extremely welcoming and a first class operation.
