CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A three-run fifth broke a 1-1 tie while two insurance runs in the eighth provided breathing room as Charlotte baseball took the rubber game over Rhode Island 6-3 at Hayes Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Gino Groover recorded a career-high three hits in the win.
"I have to start off with how much respect our entire program has for Rhode Island, Coach Cerrato and his players," began Head Coach Robert Woodard. "They find out Thursday afternoon they were coming to play three games in Charlotte, a 15-hour bus ride Friday, a doubleheader Saturday and nine innings again on Sunday, followed by the 15-hour bus ride home.
