Appalachian State (1-1) scored 21 unanswered points in the second half, courtesy of two big plays and a fumble recovery in the end zone to pull away from Charlotte (1-1) for a 45-9 non-conference victory in front of a record crowd of 19,151 at Charlotte's Jerry Richardson Stadium.
Mountaineer QB Zac Thomas was perfect on the night, completing all 14 passes for 295 yards and three TDs to pace App State's attack.
"Give App State a lot of credit," 49ers head coach Brad Lambert said, "especially Zac Thomas. I thought he played an excellent game.
